This is a short post because there is not much to say, and saying it plainly is more useful than padding it out.
What we can actually deliver
Apple Music — plays, at ₦22,961 to ₦31,041 per 1,000 depending on tier. That is it. Two tiers, one service type.
Deezer — followers at ₦4,571 per 1,000 and likes at ₦3,194 per 1,000. No plays.
Compare that to Spotify, where we carry plays, followers, monthly listeners, saves and podcast followers across thirteen tiers. The gap is not an oversight on our side. These two platforms are more closed than the others, which limits what anyone can do with them.
What nobody can deliver
Be suspicious of anyone offering:
- Apple Music followers or listeners. The platform does not expose the surface that would make this work at scale. If someone is selling it, ask what exactly arrives.
- Apple Music playlist placement. Editorial is chosen by Apple's people. It is pitched, not bought.
- Deezer plays. We do not sell them because we cannot source them reliably, and a service that fails half the time is worse than no service.
- Chart positions on either. Charts are computed from activity. Nobody sells a position; they sell activity and hope.
Is either worth your money?
For most Nigerian artists reading this: not yet.
Apple Music plays cost roughly twenty times what Audiomack plays cost and reach an audience that is mostly not here. Deezer's African footprint is small enough that a thousand followers changes very little.
Two situations where it does make sense:
You have a diaspora audience. Apple Music is heavily used in the UK and US, and if your listeners are Nigerians abroad rather than Nigerians at home, that is where some of them are.
You are building breadth for a pitch. A profile that exists everywhere with numbers everywhere is a stronger argument to a label than one platform doing well. Small amounts across many platforms, deliberately, is a real strategy — just be clear that it is a presentation strategy and not a growth one.
If you do order
Keep it small and keep it slow. These are low-volume services and a large order lands harder and looks more obviously placed than it would on a platform with more traffic to hide in.
Start with the minimum the service allows. See what arrives. Scale only if the first order behaved.
The better use of the same money
₦25,000 buys roughly 1,000 Apple Music plays. The same ₦25,000 buys about 17,000 Audiomack plays, or 21,000 Spotify plays, or a real budget on a platform your audience uses.
We will happily sell you the Apple Music order. We would rather you knew the comparison first.
