Telegram gives a first time visitor almost nothing to judge you on. No profile grid, no bio full of credentials, no visible list of who else follows you. There is a channel name, a short description, and a member count. That count is the entire first impression, which is why it does more work on Telegram than a follower number does anywhere else.
