Snapchat sits in an odd position in Nigeria: a lot of people use it, almost nobody talks about growing on it, and the creators who do take it seriously have far less competition than they would anywhere else.
Who is actually on it here
Skews young — late teens to late twenties — and skews toward people who treat it as private rather than public. That is the important distinction. Instagram is a portfolio; Snapchat is a conversation with people you actually know.
That makes it bad for some things and unusually good for others.
Bad for: reach to strangers, portfolio building, anything a brand would look at before hiring you.
Good for: a relationship with an audience that already knows you. Snapchat opens get read. A Story posted to 2,000 Snapchat friends gets far more attention per viewer than the same content to 2,000 Instagram followers, because the context is closer.
What Spotlight changed
Spotlight is Snapchat's TikTok-shaped surface: short vertical video, shown to people who do not follow you, ranked on watch time. It is the only part of Snapchat where a stranger can find you.
It is also much less crowded than TikTok. The same video that competes with ten million others on TikTok competes with far fewer here. For a Nigerian creator already making short video, posting the same content to Spotlight costs nothing extra and occasionally does much better than it did on TikTok.
That is the single most underrated free move in Nigerian social media right now.
What growth costs
Eleven tiers, which is more than several platforms that have their own dedicated post:
- Followers — ₦30,424 to ₦59,954 per 1,000
- Likes — ₦20,019 to ₦43,700 per 1,000
- Views — ₦69,563 to ₦124,108 per 1,000
Live rates on the services page.
Views are the expensive one, and the wide spread between tiers reflects how differently they behave — the cheaper end arrives faster and holds less well, the top end looks like ordinary viewing. On a platform this closed, that difference matters more than usual.
The honest assessment
Snapchat is a second platform, not a first. If you are choosing where to build, Instagram and TikTok reach more Nigerians and turn into money more readily.
Where Snapchat earns its place:
You already have an audience elsewhere and want them closer. Moving your most engaged followers to Snapchat gets you a direct line that no algorithm sits in front of.
You make short video already. Spotlight is free distribution you are currently not using.
Your audience is young. For a fashion, music or campus-facing brand, this is where that audience actually spends its evenings.
If you buy
Buy views on Spotlight content rather than followers on the profile. Views are the signal Spotlight ranks on, and a video that gets shown to strangers is worth more than a follower count nobody sees.
Start small. At ₦70,000 to ₦124,000 per 1,000 views this is among the more expensive things we sell, and a first order should be small enough that you are buying information rather than volume.
What to do this week, free
Take the last five TikToks you made. Post them to Spotlight. It costs you ten minutes and it is the highest-expected-value thing in this entire post.
If any of them move, you have found a platform. If none do, you have lost ten minutes.
